Vox is somewhat of a converted character from my older writing days, with some additions inspired by (EW spoiler!) Zero's backstory. Similar to Zero, he was born in the Thirteenth to a mother who had been corrupted by darkness whilst pregnant with him.Vox was summoned to the Source by a secretive cult consisting of scientists and mages, who focused their practice on learning all they could about Darkness, Voidsent, and the possibility of other 'worlds' (Shards.) For decades he remained as a prisoner, where his aether was further manipulated and altered during their 'studies' and experiments, whilst Vox remained restrained by magical bounds. Repeatedly he would be starved, only to be force-fed aether from citizens of the Source, as well as other, smaller Voidsent of their summoning. A particular point of interest for these 'scientists' was the connection between a Voidsent and those it consumes. How the soul and memories become intertwined with the devourer. And so they sought to 'remove the excess', to extract those souls and memories by any means necessary, and to observe how it would affect Vox. There was no evidence of success, but by proxy Vox's own memories have been fractured, and there's a void within him that's almost palpable.Much of this is lost in his memory, as is much of his time spent in the Void. He can withstand very long periods without sustenance but still experiences hunger for aether. He can present himself without any Voidsent features and will do so for safety, but due to the manipulation of his aether, it's not sustainable. His "natural" form falls in the middle, so to speak.Vox has never fully adapted to life as an Eorzean citizen, and more often than not he finds himself among crowds specifically welcoming of darker, less desirable creatures like himself, seeing as Voidsent are highly feared and often killed on sight, or otherwise captured. He can be found in taverns, wandering Solution Nine, or in his line of work as a courtesan.
